Kayam Churna is manufactured by Sheth Brothers. It's coming in a white plastic bottle with powdered form. Kayam Churna is also available in tablet form. Brand name is Kayam Tablet.  Its price is approx 85 Rupee in a 100-gram bottle.

Kayam Churna Composition and Ingredients -
Kayam Churna contains a blend of pure and powerful natural herbs like Senna leaves, Himej, Black salt, Ajwain, Nisot, Hing, Yashtimadhu, Mulethi, Sunth etc.
It contains Senna or Cassia angustifolia 50% and Senna is scientifically proven to treat severe constipation and also known as Tinnevelly senna. It’s a natural laxative. Senna leaves are collected by hands. Then these fresh bluish leaves are shade dried, till leaves change to yellowish-green color which is then graded and stored.
It contains 11.5% Ajwain or Carum capticum which botanical name is Trachyspermum ammi . It is hot in potency, bitter, anti-spasmodic, carminative, stimulates the appetite, stimulates flow of blood to pelvic region, stomachic and laxative in action.
Trivrit or Nishot or Operculina turpethum use 3% in this choorn. It is an herb that has anthelmintic, anti-inflammatory and purgative properties. It may act as an abortifacient when used in pregnant ladies. It is also a very useful herb used in panchakarma treatment called as Virechana – Purgation treatment.
Kayam Churna contains Haritaki or Himej or Terminalia chebula as 8% is a well-known laxative herb and it is considered divine fruit. According to Indian mythology, Haritaki originated from the drops of Amrit that fell on earth. Since this tree is sacred to God Shiv. Har means Lord Shiva, so it is called Haritaki. Consumption of Haritaki can increase nutrient absorption, cleansing of the colon, along with speeding up the elimination time. Haritaki helps in the removal of the toxins from the body and keeps the digestive system healthy.
It contains 4.5% Mulethi or Yashtimadhu or Licorice or JethiMadh which botanical name is Glycyrrhiza Glabra has anti-inflammatory, spasmolytic, estrogenic, and mild laxative properties. It is good for stomach complaints, peptic ulcers and mouth ulcers.
Sauvarchala Lavana or Kala Namak or Black Salt is dark coloured salt. Also known as Sochal Salt or Kari Uppu. It is aromatic, stomachic, purgative, demulcent, bilious and digestive. Black salt is beneficial in abdominal pain, abdominal tumors, intestinal worms and constipation.

Svarjiksara is impure sodium bicarbonate. It is commonly known as baking soda. When combined with some acids like citric acid or lemon juice, it gives away Carbon Dioxide. It has an alkalizing effect on the human body and that is the reason it is used in many antacids for fast relief from acidity. It is also used as an ingredient in one of the home remedies for acidity and gas.

Mode of Action
Kayam churna is laxative and purgative in action. Laxative are those agents which stimulate or facilitate the evacuation of the bowels. Purgative are agents which tend to cleanse or purge, especially causing the evacuation of the bowels. Laxatives are mild and work gradually whereas purgative has a stronger effect.
The main action of Kayam churna is based on its major ingredient senna leaves, which irritate the bowel linings and result in stimulant laxative effect.
Senna also causes abdominal pain or cramps, so black salt, carom seeds (ajwain), Svarjiksara (Purified) and liquorice are added to reduce this effect due to their anti-spasmodic actions.


Benefits and Uses of Kayam churna –
Constipation is a situation where stools become hard and the person has difficulty in passing them. It may sound simple but constipation can develop into a serious problem which can affect your daily life. The medicine that will help you here is a laxative. In a lament meaning, laxative is any substance that helps in better digestion. It also softens your stool so they are easy to pass.

Kayam Churna irritates bowel lining and helps treat Chronic constipation. It is also beneficial for people suffering from gas, abdominal distention, heaviness in abdomen, headache and mouth ulcer.
Kayam churna is a combination of powerful purgatives. Senna leaves which is the main ingredient of this powder is a laxative, purgative, astringent, bitter, acrid, anti-parasitic, heat generating, purifying, the liver Tonic, stimulates bile secretion, peristaltic and reduces fever.
Kayam Churna has one main property of stimulant laxative. Please note it is not a bulk forming laxative, so you should not use kayam churna on a regular basis. All other herbs are just playing a supportive role except senna leaves.
Yastimadhu are good for stomach complaints, peptic ulcers and mouth ulcers.
Trivrit is a good purgative Ayurvedic herb.
Haritaki and Senna leaves are mild laxatives.

Dosage & Directions of Kayam churna -
You can take Kayam Churna in dosage of 3 to 6 grams (1 to 2 teaspoons) with warm water preferably at night just before sleeping. The maximum dosage of Kayam Churna should not exceed from 6 grams a day to avoid its side effects. The dosage of Kayam Tablets is 1 to 2 tablets as per severity of constipation. In mild constipation, 1 tablet should be sufficient, otherwise one may require taking 2 tablets at bedtime with warm water. High dose of Kayam churna may cause severe stomach pain, diarrhea and loss of water.

Caution & Side Effects of Kayam churna -
You should not regularly or long-term use Kayam Churna. Its occasional use might be safe, but if you start using it on a regular basis, it can result in developing a laxative habit by weakening the intestines and conflicting with natural peristaltic movements.
Regular use of Senna may lead to complete loss of the spontaneous bowel rhythm on which normal the evacuation depends.
The side effects of Kayam Churna can occur due to excess intake of senna leaves. These side effects are listed below.
Abdominal pain or cramps, Laxative habit, Diarrhoea, High blood potassium, Loss of fluids.
Kayam Churna should not be used in children under age of 10. It is UNSAFE for children.
Kayam Churna may stimulate contractions of the uterus and may cause bleeding or spotting in pregnancy due to its hot potency ingredients. Therefore, kayam churna is UNSAFE in pregnancy.
You can discontinue use of it if diarrhea or watery stools occur.

Contraindications of Kayam churna -
You should not use Kayam Churna if you are suffering from any of the following diseases.
High Blood Pressure - Kayam Churna is high in sodium content due to black salt.
High Potassium Levels - Senna may cause hyperkalemia.
Abdominal Pain or Cramps - Kayam churna may worsen the condition as it also contains herbs, which cause cramps
